Day 16: Highs And Lows

by carolyn on April 16, 2012

One of my favorite childhood dinner memories besides the aforementioned massive quantities I consumed was a game we played at the dinner table called “Highs And Lows.” Basically we would go around in a circle and talk about our most favorite (“High”) and least favorite (“Low”) part of our respective days.

This may be a common conversation game, I’m not really sure. I introduced it to my college friends during dinner at the good ol’ dining hall and I would like to think it brought us closer together. More recently I tried to play the game during a date and it may have been the catalyst to the demise of our oh so promising future together. Sometimes it’s hard to pinpoint where things go wrong… So ladies, just in case, have your men on lockdown before introducing “Highs and Lows” into your relationship.

Tonight I would like to share with you my health-related high and low of the day.

High:

I had a pocket of time to kill between a doctor appointment and dinner in town about 2 hours later. If I were to drive home and then back to town that would take an hour. It seemed like a total waste of time. Instead I decided to go for a walk at Lake Mayer. The last time I walked that path was in high school so I didn’t really remember how long it was. I ended up walking the whole path in about 30 minutes. It felt like I walked at least 2 or 3 miles. I looked it up on my iPad later and saw that it was only 1 and 1/2 miles. So I’m not really the marathon walker I thought I was, but it was definitely a good use of my time and I wouldn’t have gotten a workout in at all if I had skipped it. Plus my other favorite ways to kill time are eating and drinking. So all in all, snaps to me.

Low:

I didn’t really eat enough through out the day so by the time I met my crew for dinner I was starving. We went to Miyabi’s, a Japanese hibachi grill. You already know that Chick-fil-a and alcohol are two of my major weaknesses. Japanese food is my third weakness. I ordered filet mignon and chicken and ate way more than I anticipated. In retrospect I should have gotten a snack after my walk like an apple so I wouldn’t overeat at dinner. Lesson learned!

What were your highs and lows today?

Congratulations on your high today!!! And your low was not so low. I was with you at dinner and saw you give some of your food to your sister to take home with her. So your low today may have been a high a year ago.

I love you and am so proud of you!!!

I love this!

Yesterday’s low: Decided to have a treat with my remaining calories – greek Style Ben and Jerry’s Fro Yo Blueberry Vanilla Graham Cracker. I did not portion it out and ate half a pint! No self-control when it comes to ouce cream!! :)

I feel like it’s soooo easy to have a food related low when there’s a fitness high. Barre sounds awesome, by the way…never tried it but I’m 100% intrigued!
